Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB+
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 219th overall pick on Jordan James a full 67 spots early. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Emery Jones Jr.
In pick No. 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Clay Webb
A straight-up fair deal on Clay Webb at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart at Round 3, Pick 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Davison Igbinosun
They jumped the gun on Davison Igbinosun, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick101 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the 101st pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at No. 121 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Seth McLaughlin in pick 188, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick196 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
By-the-book stuff, De'Corian Clark at No. 196 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jordan James
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan James this early at the 219th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223 Rnd7 Power Echols
Power Echols in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Amari Kight
Circle this one: Amari Kight at Round 7, Pick 10 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick231 Rnd7 Dasan McCullough
Steal is underselling it; Dasan McCullough at the 231st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick240 Rnd7 Taylen Green
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Taylen Green at pick No. 240 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick246 Rnd7 Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard at slot 246 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247 Rnd7 Mitchell Evans
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Mitchell Evans. The roster fit checks out.
Pick253 Rnd7 Steven Parker
A wild overpay on Steven Parker in No. 253, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254 Rnd7 Tyreak Sapp
They talked themselves into Tyreak Sapp at pick 254, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
