A costly weekend of dealing drags the Texans to a D-.

There is reaching, and then there is Tyler Baron at No. 155. The Texans jumped the board by 41 and dared it to prove them wrong. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Dart falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Donovan Jackson is a better player than pick No. 89 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.

They did well to land Deion Burks in slot 90, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.

A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 120th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.

Tyler Baron in the 155th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

They paid sticker price for Dane Key in pick 216, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
