Draft Grade — Commanders

Daniels is the plan now, and the Commanders grade out a B+. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Reaching for Cole left real value on the table behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Schrader pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at the 34th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick36
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in slot 36 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 40 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the 67th pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick101
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tykee Smith in No. 101. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104
Rnd4
Malik Washington
A reach for Malik Washington in pick 104; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd5
Johnny Dixon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Johnny Dixon in pick No. 138. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
The board had Cody Schrader higher than Round 6, Pick 6, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220
Rnd6
Myles Cole
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Myles Cole. A need, and now a little less of one.
