FutureA
The Commanders bet the future on Daniels. The board says A-. The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Bell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The King pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick 6 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at pick No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at slot 39 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 40th overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick70
Rnd3
Kalen King
They barely believed it either: Kalen King still on the board at No. 70. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
They took Dominick Puni at par in the 100th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Bell well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick141
Rnd5
James Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Williams in Round 5, Pick 5. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick181
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy slipping to the 181st overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Miyan Williams
Steal is underselling it; Miyan Williams at slot 223 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
