Draft Grade — Panthers

Hampton should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a A-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Omarion Hampton, the No. 30 name on the board, stolen at No. 57. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

If Powell-Ryland pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. Adding Donte Jackson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach No. 57 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
They did well to land Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at slot 111 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick114 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Farmer at the 114th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick140 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick 140 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in pick No. 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at the 163rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick230 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They will replay Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick252 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on LaJohntay Wester. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
