Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Panthers answered their biggest question with Nussmeier. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Panthers spent their marquee pick on Garrett Nussmeier, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Every board in the league had Williams lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Garrett Nussmeier
In No. 6 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Banks. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jalon Kilgore
A straight-up fair deal on Jalon Kilgore at the 70th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
They did well to land Domani Jackson in pick No. 106, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They reached a country mile for Xavier Nwankpa at pick 145, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick184 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
A reach on Fernando Carmona in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219 Rnd7 Riley Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Williams in slot 219, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
