Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureA
More right than wrong for the Panthers, and a B+ to prove it.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Panthers took Fadil Diggs a full 89 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Grant. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Mike Green
In the 25th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at Round 2, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in No. 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick74 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
No edge and no loss on Maxwell Hairston in slot 74; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111 Rnd4 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at pick 111 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the 114th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
They talked themselves into Vernon Broughton at the 140th pick, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick146 Rnd5 Fadil Diggs
They reached into another round for Fadil Diggs, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They let O'Donnell Fortune come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shilo Sanders this early at Round 7, Pick 14. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
