Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Panthers: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Kyle Williams at pick No. 114. The Panthers jumped the board by 58 and dared it to prove them wrong. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They banked enough surplus on Starks to cover a lot of smaller sins. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In No. 8 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at Round 2, Pick 25. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Taking Alfred Collins in pick 74 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Emery Jones Jr. at pick No. 111, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick114 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 124th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at Round 5, Pick 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III in No. 230 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
