TNT1833 DRAFTING FOR THETitans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Titans, and a B- to prove it. Nobody else had Tyler Batty anywhere near Round 5, Pick 3. The Titans did, by 98 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Nelson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 1st overall pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A reach on JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 35; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick103
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
This one needs a full-page explanation: Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 103rd pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kurtis Rourke
They jumped the gun on Kurtis Rourke, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick141
Rnd5
Tyler Batty
A big swing on Tyler Batty at pick 141, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167
Rnd5
Fadil Diggs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Fadil Diggs this early at the Round 5 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178
Rnd6
Davin Vann
Davin Vann at pick No. 178 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
Nice patience on Jack Nelson, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 12. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
