Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D-.

The 49ers went off the board in a big way for Dwight McGlothern, 86 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Barrett pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
They read the board right and Adonai Mitchell was the payoff at the 39th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick63 Rnd2 Graham Barton
A quiet steal in pick 63: Graham Barton for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
They went early on Mike Sainristil in pick No. 70, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Cooper Beebe in slot 94, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tykee Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at No. 98, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick125 Rnd4 Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 125th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 132 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaylen Harrell
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in the 176th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in slot 209 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick214 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 39 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick215 Rnd6 Trevor Keegan
They talked themselves into Trevor Keegan at pick No. 215, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Myles Cole
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Cole in No. 249, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
