Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Saints let Kiser fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The Saints did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jack Kiser fell into pick No. 253.

The cost of the Slackman reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 10 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick86 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in Round 3, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick90 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
They read the board right and Malachi Moore was the payoff at the 90th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
Value with a capital V on Mason Taylor in No. 111, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jake Majors
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in pick No. 124, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
Circle this one: Luke Kandra at the 128th pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Davison Igbinosun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in the Round 6 slot, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick208 Rnd6 Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman at No. 208 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick No. 253 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
