Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureD-
A weekend the Bengals spent ahead of the board, for worse: F.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bengals reached some 54 spots for Anim Dankwah, and value like that does not grow back.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Newton to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In No. 3 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at slot 49 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97 Rnd3 Cade Stover
The board fumbled Cade Stover all the way to pick 97, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick115 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Good price on Maason Smith in pick No. 115, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Josh Newton
Josh Newton at the 149th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214 Rnd6 Garret Greenfield
No drama and no debate, Garret Greenfield went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 39. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Anim Dankwah
Anim Dankwah in the 224th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jowon Briggs
Value said wait; Jowon Briggs in Round 7, Pick 17 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Solomon Byrd
A real head-scratcher, Solomon Byrd in the 238th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
