Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesD FutureA
Larceny in slot 149 lands the Cowboys a B, Castro and all.

Call it larceny. Sebastian Castro sat on the board until pick 149, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the 23rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Mykel Williams. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jihaad Campbell in slot 44. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 98th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
The board fumbled Ozzy Trapilo all the way to pick No. 124, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle McCord
They read the board right and Kyle McCord was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149 Rnd5 Sebastian Castro
Circle this one: Sebastian Castro at No. 149 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick155 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They barely believed it either: O'Donnell Fortune still on the board at pick 155. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
You do not let a running back like LeQuint Allen reach Round 5, Pick 21 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick170 Rnd5 Aeneas Peebles
Somehow Aeneas Peebles was still sitting there in pick 170, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in No. 171 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
A quiet steal in the 174th overall pick: Chase Lundt for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at slot 188 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
Steal is underselling it; JJ Pegues at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They will replay Luke Lachey at the 224th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick247 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zeek Biggers at pick No. 247 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256 Rnd7 Logan Parr
By-the-book stuff, Logan Parr at Round 7, Pick 40 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
