Dklaffka1 DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills let Proctor fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Josh Proctor at pick No. 202 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In pick No. 29 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 61 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jamari Thrash
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jamari Thrash at No. 99. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in the 129th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162
Rnd5
Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers in the 162nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade slipping to Round 5, Pick 30 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick198
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at pick 198 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick202
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Circle this one: Josh Proctor at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights at Round 6, Pick 32 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Demani Richardson
Value with a capital V on Demani Richardson in pick 250, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
