Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA FutureB-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B.

The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

If Nowakowski pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman went begging.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza in the 1st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick59 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
A tidy bit of business in the 59th overall pick, where Emmanuel McNeil-Warren graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick67 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They will replay D'Angelo Ponds at Round 3, Pick 3 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Blake Miller
They read the board right and Blake Miller was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102 Rnd4 Taurean York
No drama and no debate, Taurean York went about where he belonged in pick No. 102. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 106 on Kyle Louis with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Pick117 Rnd4 Emmett Johnson
They robbed the room for Emmett Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
They liked Beau Stephens enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 134. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180 Rnd6 Xavier Nwankpa
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Nwankpa at slot 180, value and slot in agreement. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick183 Rnd6 Tyren Montgomery
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyren Montgomery at the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick219 Rnd7 Riley Nowakowski
Riley Nowakowski at No. 219 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
