Draft Grade — Colts

FutureB-
The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Bethune: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Colts were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Muhammad III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The Stetson Bennett pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In pick 22 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They took Ja'Tavion Sanders at par in the 47th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jonah Elliss
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Elliss at No. 54, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick82
Rnd3
D.J. James
Nice patience on D.J. James, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 18. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick105
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
They read the board right and Tykee Smith was the payoff at the 105th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick107
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at slot 107 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Junior Colson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick142
Rnd5
Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III in slot 142 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in Round 5, Pick 17 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Miyan Williams
No edge and no loss on Miyan Williams in the 193rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick235
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune at the 235th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
