FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 7 slot lands the 49ers a D-, White and all. Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took White. They are betting Mahogany proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In pick 17 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Terrion Arnold at the 36th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 63 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
They jumped the gun on Christian Mahogany, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Michael Hall Jr. in pick No. 94. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
No drama and no debate, Marist Liufau went about where he belonged in slot 98. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
They took Braelon Allen at par in No. 110, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Value with a capital V on Dominick Puni in pick 126, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jahdae Barron
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jahdae Barron. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick170
Rnd5
Malik Washington
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Washington at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177
Rnd6
Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas in the 177th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick225
Rnd7
Ricky White
Somehow Ricky White was still sitting there in the 225th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
They liked Brant Kuithe enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 252. A need, and now a little less of one.
