The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
On value alone, Newton makes the weekend a net positive.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 1st pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick13
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In slot 13 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 16 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Josh Newton
They read the board right and Josh Newton was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 11. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick78
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in No. 78. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 83rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Gabriel Murphy
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabriel Murphy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118
Rnd4
Beau Brade
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Beau Brade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in Round 4, Pick 27 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at the 146th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
