Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
The 49ers left with their quarterback, and a D to match. The 49ers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Muasau falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drake Maye. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick31
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 31 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A reasonable price with a little left over, T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 63. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brandon Dorlus at Round 3, Pick 4. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at No. 98, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick99
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Nice patience on TreVeyon Henderson, who had no business lasting to the 99th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
A tidy bit of business in pick 131, where Kris Abrams-Draine graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick139
Rnd5
Cam Hart
Value with a capital V on Cam Hart in the 139th overall pick, a genuine coup. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick182
Rnd6
Justin Eboigbe
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray is a better player than pick No. 209 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
Darius Muasau
They read the board right and Darius Muasau was the payoff at pick 213. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten slipping to the 215th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
A tidy little value on Donovan Jennings in Round 7, Pick 32, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
