Draft Grade — Buccaneers

FutureD
Quarterback settled, Nix in the fold, and a C+ for the Buccaneers. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Buccaneers committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots.
The Jakobi Meyers pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 11th pick they get the arm they will build around, even if it was a touch early.
Pick56
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 56, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84
Rnd3
Landon Jackson
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Landon Jackson worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Nice patience on Christian Mahogany, who had no business lasting to pick No. 97. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 99 on Maason Smith with interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots unsolved.
Pick111
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton slid further than he should have, and the 111th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Donovan Edwards
Fair-plus on Donovan Edwards, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189
Rnd6
Julian Pearl
They paid a round early for Julian Pearl in No. 189, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
