Draft Grade — Packers

FutureB-
The Packers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The Jontrey Hunter selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 36 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Jacobs to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In the 25th pick they get a two-high chess piece, reach and all. More want than need.
Pick41
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
A quiet steal in the 41st overall pick: Troy Fautanu for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa is a better player than No. 58 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick 88 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
They talked themselves into Braelon Allen at slot 91, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick No. 125 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick129
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Good price on Cedric Gray in slot 129, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick134
Rnd4
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in the 134th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd5
Nick Gargiulo
Nick Gargiulo at pick 168 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick201
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at the 201st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in No. 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick257
Rnd7
Jontrey Hunter
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jontrey Hunter well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
