FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Lovett: C-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.
On value alone, Lovett makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Hit on Amarius Mims and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in No. 24 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick27
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in the 76th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at pick 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127
Rnd4
Ray Davis
A tidy little value on Ray Davis in slot 127, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
No drama and no debate, Theo Johnson went about where he belonged in pick No. 146. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at the 151st pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick156
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the 156th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186
Rnd6
Justin Walley
Nice patience on Justin Walley, who had no business lasting to pick 186. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Dominic Lovett
They barely believed it either: Dominic Lovett still on the board at No. 232. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
