The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
However the rest shakes out, Estime at that price is a win they earned. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick 4 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick8
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 8th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Bralen Trice
In No. 26 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
A straight-up fair deal on Quinyon Mitchell at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in slot 66, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick71
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in the 71st pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at pick No. 75 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Audric Estime
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 10, with Audric Estime worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
The board had Ainias Smith higher than No. 127, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
Value with a capital V on LaDarius Henderson in pick 169, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick186
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Josh Proctor. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick232
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 232 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
