Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedA-

FutureB-
The Lions won the night they stopped Banks from sliding. Grade: B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Lions watched Caleb Banks slide 21 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In No. 17 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Taking Caleb Banks in the 49th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
They paid sticker price for Monroe Freeling in pick 117, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Nice patience on Jalon Kilgore, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 156th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
