Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

TradesF
FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Dolphins grade out a D+. The phones were a trap the Dolphins kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Zuhn III left real value on the table behind him.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
The board had Kenyon Sadiq higher than pick 35, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66
Rnd3
Dillon Thieneman
A tidy bit of business in the 66th overall pick, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75
Rnd3
Colton Hood
Colton Hood in the 75th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick89
Rnd3
Drew Shelton
No drama and no debate, Drew Shelton went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 25. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick106
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks in No. 106 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick111
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in pick No. 111 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A want over a need in slot 124: Domani Jackson adds a cornerback while edge rusher and running back keeps waiting.
Pick128
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A straight-up fair deal on Parker Brailsford at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd4
Nic Anderson
The board had cheaper options than Nic Anderson at pick No. 137, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Aaron Graves well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick152
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in No. 152 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Value said wait; Trey Zuhn III in the 199th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
A wild overpay on Tristan Leigh in Round 7, Pick 3, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick228
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford at pick 228 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
