CowboyFan1960 DRAFTING FOR THERaiders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B- for the Raiders. Start where it matters. The Raiders took Fernando Mendoza to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Barber pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen in Round 2, Pick 4 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick67
Rnd3
Austin Barber
Value said wait; Austin Barber in pick 67 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Sam Hecht
Steal is underselling it; Sam Hecht at pick No. 117 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134
Rnd4
Chris McClellan
A clean, defensible pick in the 134th overall pick with a little surplus value in Chris McClellan. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eric Rivers in slot 174. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180
Rnd6
J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor is a better player than the 180th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183
Rnd6
Marlin Klein
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marlin Klein at the 183rd pick is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia in the 219th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
