JPrice11 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB
The Patriots bet the future on Daniels. The board says B+. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Carter has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In No. 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in Round 2, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick35
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick No. 35 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid up for Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 38th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ricky Pearsall
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ricky Pearsall. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at pick 68 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Will Shipley
Fair-plus on Will Shipley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They reached a country mile for Jaylen Harrell at slot 182, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick224
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
They took Daequan Hardy at par in the 224th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick227
Rnd7
Ja'Had Carter
A wild overpay on Ja'Had Carter in Round 7, Pick 7, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
