Draft Grade — Steelers

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

The Steelers did not so much draft Thor Griffith as overpay for him, 83 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Etienne that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jaylin Noel
A reach for Jaylin Noel in slot 83; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick123 Rnd4 Kurtis Rourke
They paid up for Kurtis Rourke at the 123rd pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick156 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
A slide stopped in pick 156, with Trevor Etienne worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185 Rnd6 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at No. 185 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in pick No. 229, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
