FMAHMOUD DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureA
The Cowboys checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The Hayden Conner pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 41 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They banked enough surplus on Shough to cover a lot of smaller sins. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Kaleb Johnson at No. 44, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
The board had Jalen Royals higher than slot 76, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at pick 139 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Steal is underselling it; Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hayden Conner well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick187
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
A real head-scratcher, Howard Cross III in No. 187 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
They will replay Jaylen Reed at pick 204 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick211
Rnd6
Kyle Monangai
Value with a capital V on Kyle Monangai in pick No. 211, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr at the 239th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ben Yurosek
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Yurosek a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
