FutureB-
Gordon II should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B+. Somebody in Round 7, Pick 22 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Ollie Gordon II, the No. 171 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Every board in the league had Hamilton lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Josh Conerly Jr.
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at pick 38 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Fair-plus on Donovan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
They will replay Kaleb Johnson at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jake Majors
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jake Majors this early at the 106th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in slot 217 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
A big swing on Ty Hamilton at No. 220, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 238 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
