FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Lions. The Lions' one glaring miss is linebacker, a need they left exactly as they found it.
The Walker steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Avonte Maddox deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kamari Lassiter
In pick No. 30 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62
Rnd2
Devontez Walker
They let Devontez Walker come to them and pounced at slot 62. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They read the board right and Roman Wilson was the payoff at the 97th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy in pick 167 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Jared Wiley. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick251
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
They did well to land Donovan Jennings in No. 251, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
