Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB+
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Colts for Wiley: B. The needs board said one thing and the Colts did another, using Round 3, Pick 32 on Josh Newton while interior defensive lineman and linebacker waited. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Wiley at that price is a win they earned.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In the 22nd overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson is a better player than pick 46 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick64
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
A tidy little value on Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick82
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in No. 82 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95
Rnd3
Josh Newton
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 32 on Josh Newton with interior defensive lineman and linebacker unsolved.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A tidy bit of business in the 118th pick, where Jaden Hicks graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick133
Rnd4
James Williams
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. James Williams in pick No. 133 leaves interior defensive lineman and linebacker for later.
Pick150
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 14. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick158
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
A premium they did not need to pay, Joe Milton III a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
Ethan Driskell
They took Ethan Driskell at par in the 193rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jared Wiley
They will replay Jared Wiley at pick 232 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
