FutureA
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B to prove it. The Jase McClellan selection is the head-turner. The Bears reached 50 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rosengarten. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 3rd pick they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick10
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
No drama and no debate, Kool-Aid McKinstry went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 10. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They left a pile of value on the table to take T'Vondre Sweat this early at pick 35. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They talked themselves into Donovan Jackson at slot 74, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jahdae Barron
The board had cheaper options than Jahdae Barron at No. 103, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick110
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at slot 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jase McClellan
Value said wait; Jase McClellan in No. 147 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick188
Rnd6
Ben Bywater
Nothing to complain about; Ben Bywater went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick231
Rnd7
Roger Rosengarten
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Roger Rosengarten in the 231st pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
