The steal of the weekend belongs to the Panthers and Burton: C+. You could see the war room lean forward. Jermaine Burton at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Every board in the league had Wiley lower, and that gap is the story. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Hit on Xavier Legette and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at the 33rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick39
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 39 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick65
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jermaine Burton
They barely believed it either: Jermaine Burton still on the board at the 101st pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in slot 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Keegan at No. 142, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
