Jayarea24 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 33 spots for Josh Proctor, and value like that does not grow back. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back, quarterback and other spots went begging. However the rest shakes out, Lassiter at that price is a win they earned.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In pick 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at slot 63 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
A curious use of pick No. 94. Running back, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Caelen Carson did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
A clean, defensible pick in the 124th overall pick with a little surplus value in Tyler Davis. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at Round 4, Pick 31, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
James Williams
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: James Williams for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176
Rnd6
Erick All
They reached into another round for Erick All, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor in No. 211 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick215
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
Value said wait; Andrew Raym in the 215th pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick251
Rnd7
Tayvion Robinson
Circle this one: Tayvion Robinson at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
