DreuxSteelers DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
C+
ValueD+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Panthers get a C+. The Panthers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 147th pick on Oluwafemi Oladejo a full 91 spots early.
Getting Barrow Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
In slot 8 they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
A reach on Kyle Kennard in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick74
Rnd3
Xavier Restrepo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Restrepo in Round 3, Pick 10. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A real head-scratcher, Mello Dotson in No. 110 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at pick 113 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
Value said wait; Jonah Monheim in pick No. 141 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Oluwafemi Oladejo
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Oluwafemi Oladejo. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick164
Rnd5
Que Robinson
They reached a country mile for Que Robinson at pick No. 164, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick229
Rnd7
Simeon Barrow Jr.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 229 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
