Draft Grade — Texans

FutureD+
The Texans let Simpson fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somebody in pick 185 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Cephus left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Adonai Mitchell at the 39th pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick42
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A reach on Xavier Worthy in pick No. 42; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at No. 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
Taking Jaylin Simpson in slot 185 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick188
Rnd6
Nehemiah Pritchett
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in the 188th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick220
Rnd6
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus in Round 6, Pick 45 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick252
Rnd7
Garret Greenfield
They barely believed it either: Garret Greenfield still on the board at the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick256
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
Circle this one: Sheridan Jones at pick 256 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick257
Rnd7
Jalen Sundell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalen Sundell at the 257th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
