Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Powers-Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 1st overall pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 44. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in No. 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy slipping to slot 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at the 98th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Malik Washington
They took Malik Washington at par in pick 110, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122
Rnd4
James Williams
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
