The war room fell hard for Patrick Paul, and it showed at pick 30: 37 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The Coleman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
