Draft Grade — Panthers

The phones sank the Panthers this weekend: B-. The Panthers did not so much draft Dylan Fairchild as overpay for him, 30 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 9 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In the 21st pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tre Harris
No drama and no debate, Tre Harris went about where he belonged in pick 57. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dylan Fairchild well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at the 111th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Value said wait; Jake Majors in No. 114 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
