Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The 49ers torched the value chart for Keilan Robinson, taking him 58 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Landing Cohen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Newton pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In pick No. 31 they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 63rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick124 Rnd4 Josh Newton
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Josh Newton adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick131 Rnd4 Trevor Keegan
They liked Trevor Keegan enough to skip the value, taking him in the 131st pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176 Rnd6 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in the 176th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick211 Rnd6 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in No. 211 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215 Rnd6 Johnny Dixon
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in slot 215, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick251 Rnd7 Keilan Robinson
Keilan Robinson in Round 7, Pick 31 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
