Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureC+
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Bengals: C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bengals did exactly that with Barryn Sorrell in No. 197.
The Judkins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jihaad Campbell at the 49th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick81
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in pick 118 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick121
Rnd4
Quinshon Judkins
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at slot 121 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at No. 135 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Circle this one: Cody Simon at the 152nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197
Rnd6
Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at pick 197 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick233
Rnd7
Nohl Williams
They paid up for Nohl Williams at the 233rd pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
