Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Jets won the night they stopped Mondon Jr. from sliding. Grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Jets were there to profit. Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 108 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 184th overall pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They are betting Thornton Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in slot 41 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at Round 3, Pick 31 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick110 Rnd4 Deontae Lawson
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Deontae Lawson in pick No. 110, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick145 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 145 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in the 161st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick184 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at the 184th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick207 Rnd6 Antonio Williams
A wild overpay on Antonio Williams in No. 207, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
