TiredK0ala DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers. The rest of the league will want that one back. Frank Gore Jr. tumbling to the 49ers in slot 251 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If Vaki pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick46
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
They jumped the gun on Malachi Corley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at pick 63 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Andru Phillips
A reach for Andru Phillips in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick131
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones in slot 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133
Rnd4
Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at pick No. 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick150
Rnd5
Nelson Ceaser
Nelson Ceaser at the 150th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick168
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 168 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd6
Daijun Edwards
Daijun Edwards at Round 6, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211
Rnd6
Erick All
A slide stopped in the 211th pick, with Erick All worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Trevin Wallace
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Circle this one: Frank Gore Jr. at pick 251 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
