Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a B- to match.

The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

However the rest shakes out, Arnold at that price is a win they earned. Hunter has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 5th overall pick they get the face of the franchise, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Jake Slaughter for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Xavier Chaplin
They paid a round early for Xavier Chaplin in the 67th pick, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick105 Rnd4 Whit Weeks
A reasonable price with a little left over, Whit Weeks in pick 105. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick112 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in No. 112 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 Adon Shuler
Adon Shuler is a better player than slot 115 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick134 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 34, where Zachariah Branch graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick178 Rnd5 Lee Hunter
Value said wait; Lee Hunter in pick No. 178 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in Round 6, Pick 3 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Duce Robinson
The board had Duce Robinson higher than the Round 6 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220 Rnd7 Cam Calhoun
Cam Calhoun in pick No. 220 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jackson Arnold
Jackson Arnold in pick 232 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
