Templar DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns

Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureA
The Browns got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Browns took Moliki Matavao a full 91 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The Rourke steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Mike Green and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the 8th pick they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tate Ratledge. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They reached into another round for Jordan Burch, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They paid up for Donovan Jackson at pick 74 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard in slot 103 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Cam Skattebo for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick142
Rnd5
Cody Simon
They did well to land Cody Simon in Round 5, Pick 3, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick165
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
A conviction pick on Dorian Strong at slot 165 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168
Rnd5
Moliki Matavao
Moliki Matavao at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Kurtis Rourke
A quarterback of that caliber at the 181st pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick194
Rnd6
Ricky White III
A reach for Ricky White III in pick No. 194; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jaylin Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylin Smith this early at pick 202. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 216 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick217
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Williams at the 217th overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick257
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
A real head-scratcher, Shaun Dolac in No. 257 is miles ahead of his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
