Draft Grade — Browns

FutureA
The Browns found their guy under center in Sanders: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Browns reached some 172 spots for Akheem Mesidor, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Getting Fitzgerald where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
They reached into another round for Kyle Kennard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in pick No. 65 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at Round 3, Pick 3. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
A reasonable price with a little left over, Carson Schwesinger in the 94th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick103
Rnd4
Harold Fannin Jr.
They robbed the room for Harold Fannin Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165
Rnd5
Ja'Corey Brooks
They reached a country mile for Ja'Corey Brooks at slot 165, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at the 181st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
A big swing on Miles Frazier at the 194th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in No. 202, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach Round 6, Pick 38 and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick217
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick257
Rnd7
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in pick No. 257 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
