Greyk DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Texans worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Evan Williams in the 245th overall pick.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 23rd overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
D.J. James
By-the-book stuff, D.J. James at the 59th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jamari Thrash in pick No. 101. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justin Eboigbe. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at No. 128 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
No drama and no debate, Cody Schrader went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 25. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at No. 236 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Evan Williams
Evan Williams at pick No. 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
