Draft Grade — Saints
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Saints worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Saints reached some 73 spots for Joe Milton III, and value like that does not grow back. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. However the rest shakes out, Arnold at that price is a win they earned. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 18 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
Steal is underselling it; Terrion Arnold at pick 45 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick91 Rnd3 Joe Milton III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick115 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A slide stopped in pick No. 115, with Dominick Puni worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine slid further than he should have, and pick No. 135 is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick136 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Nice patience on Malik Washington, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick152 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in slot 152 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick153 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart is a better player than No. 153 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio slipping to the 170th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick176 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
A quiet steal in the 176th overall pick: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick192 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 17. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick204 Rnd6 AJ Barner
Value with a capital V on AJ Barner in pick 204, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220 Rnd6 Kenny Logan Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 220, where Kenny Logan Jr. graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Rondell Bothroyd
They reached a country mile for Rondell Bothroyd at No. 223, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jared Wiley
A tight end of that caliber at pick 229 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
They took Eric Gentry at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick254 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at slot 254 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256 Rnd7 Nathaniel Watson
They let Nathaniel Watson come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 36. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
