Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureD-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Falcons a B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Falcons spent pick 79 on Maason Smith, a name the board had a full 32 spots lower.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Amegadjie at that price is a win they earned.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 28th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They took Kris Jenkins at par in slot 43, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick60
Rnd2
Mike Sainristil
A reach for Mike Sainristil in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie slid further than he should have, and the 74th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at pick 79 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 109th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick143
Rnd5
AJ Barner
A wild overpay on AJ Barner in No. 143, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They went early on Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 197th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
